HIS Inc. is formed as one of the few vertical market companies specialising in the supply of hospitality systems and achieves it's first hotel success with the release of a hotel management system based on the IBM S/34 and subsequently the IBM S/36.

A global review of the world's leading PMS suppliers places HIS firmly at the top of the list. The review recognises HIS's dedication in providing a quality support operation and acknowledges it's collaboration with IBM as being a key advantage over suppliers.

HIS in tune with IBM's release of the new IBM AS/400 mid range computer launches a new system based on this model named Paragon to much acclaim and immediately consolidates it's market leader status.

HIS recognising the emerging popularity of the PC releases it's first PC based hotel management system called Innovations, to offer hoteliers across the general market place a cost effectient system on a low cost platform. Immediate success follows with many new customers adopting this system and utilising a servicethat was previously unavailable to them due to cost.

HIS establishes a company in the UK to run EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) territories and establishes a similar operation in Hong Kong to manage the Pacific Rim opportunities and customers. These new SBU's (Strategic Business Units) offer all the products and services previously only available from the US and enable the multi-national group clients to benefit from a more localised service.

HIS releases the first PC based Touch Screen Front Office System with immediate success at Accor subsidiary, Motel 6 with 750 installations. The intuitive graphic user interface makes it an immediate success with budget hotels and chains.

HIS, in line with it's desire for technology status, purchase Hogadate Gmbh, an Austrian company based in Innsbruck with a successful PC based POS system installed in over 400 locations and a recently launched Microsoft Windows based hotel management system installed in some 70 locations. This positions HIS uniquely as a company with a European based development centre for PC development and US based development centre for PC development and a US based development centre for AS/400 development.
